The National Union of Mineworkers Extended National Executive Committee breakaway was held at Mount Grace Hotel in Magaliesberg. The breakaway gathering comprised of the NEC members, Regional Coordinators from the NUM eleven regions, Pillar Heads, Youth Forum and Women Structure representatives who met from the 9th to11th of December 2014.

The National Union of Mineworkers  joins the millions of our people in South Africa and around the world in commemorating the death on 5 December 2013 of its Honorary President and former president of the republic Nelson Mandela. 

The National Union of Mineworkers members will picket at Samancor Head Office in Morningside tomorrow (6 December 2014) to handover a memorandum of grievances.

On Friday 07 November 2014, the NUM had a meeting with AngloGold Ashanti management, and in the meeting management presented to the NUM that the company is over complement in some of the categories within the company and in our discussions it was agreed to look at other means of avoiding forced retrenchments. One of the means was that the company should open up enhanced Voluntary Separation Packages to employees so that those who opt to take severance packages should do so.
