POST-NUM YOUTH STRUCTURE COMMITTEE MEETING PRESS STATEMENT

The National Union of Mineworkers Youth Structure (NUMYS) held its special National Youth Committee (NYC) meeting with the attendance of all its 11 regions on the 9th of February 2019 to discuss preparations for its upcoming branch, regional and national conferences that must take place this year.

We are glad that all plans are in place and things will go smoothly with the guidance of our senior structures in the organization. Amongst our discussions, the NUMYS has discussed the SONA as delivered by the State President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa a few days ago. The NUMYS is disappointed by the announcement made by the founding NUM General Secretary who is also the current State President of South Africa comrade Cyril Ramaphosa to unbundle Eskimo into 3 entities with an objective of  saving Eskom which is a pure lie.

Unbundling Eskom is a start of privatization which will lead to mass job losses and retrenchments in Eskom and coal mines. Unbundling of Eskom means that 3 extra CEOs and boards must be appointed to manage the three entities and which costs are being saved here?

The government must stop misleading the country for its selfish narrow interest to benefit out of  unbundling Eskom assets. The NUMYS will join forces that will arrange for a total shutdown against this decision. We call upon Cosatu to take workers seriously by making sure that they lead the national shutdown with workers and reject anything that has to do with undermining workers and South African citizens.

We call upon the ANC to reverse their Legotla decision to unbundle Eskom or else they will regret and face the consequences soon.

About Us
The National Union of Mineworkers was founded in 1982.

Its birth was facilitated by comrades Cyril Ramaphosa who rose to be its first General Secretary, James Motlatsi who turned to be its first President, and Elijah Barayi who became its Vice President and later the President of Cosatu in 1985 when the federation was formed. porn
