The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) today signed a two-year wage agreement on behalf of its members with Eskom.
The wage agreement makes provision for an 8,5% wage increase for workers for the next two years.
The agreement shall apply from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2016 to all permanent employees employed in the Bargaining Unit at Eskom
The provisions of the wage agreement also include, among others, the following adjustments:
Housing allowance The housing allowance in year one increases from R2 000 to R2 300 per month. In year two, an increase from R2 300 to R2 600 per month will apply.
Ndlela Radebe, Acting NUM Energy Sector Coordinator said the wage agreement makes provision for further negotiations should the inflation rate rise above the agreed upon annual salary increase percentage. “ All parties to the agreement accept that a protective clause, which provides for further negotiation should the inflation rate rise above 8,5% during the next two years, is built into the agreement," Radebe said.
The NUM wishes to express its sincere gratitude to its members at Eskom for the manner in which they behaved during the negotiation period up until they gave us mandate to sign the agreement.
The parties further agreed that all outstanding issues will be concluded within two weeks of the signing of this agreement
