Press Statement, 24 December 2022

NUM wishes all its members safe and happy holidays

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) wishes all its members in the Mining, Energy, and Construction and Metal sectors a merry christmas and a prosperous new year.

"This is the time of the year when we have to spend quality time with our families after a very long and difficult year. We urge all members to be careful on the roads. Please do not drink and drive. Let us all be safe and come back next year to take this country forward," said Mpho Phakedi, NUM Deputy General Secretary.

"Workers must always remember that the strength of the working class lies in the awareness of its interests and class unity. Marx and Engels pointed out that the working class is certainly the most numerous social force, however, as they pointed out, the strength of numbers is weakened by the lack of unity, which is created and perpetuated by their unavoidable competition among themselves. That is why achieving class consciousness is important," Phakedi concluded.

The NUM again wishes you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year.

Amandla!
