Press Statement, 21 April 2022
NUM and AMCU suspend a planned protest march to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) negotiating team at Sibanye-Stillwater urgently met this evening and resolved to suspend the protest march to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) that was planned for tomorrow (Friday 22 April 2022).
Instead, the team carefully and thoroughly discussed the latest wage offer by Sibanye-Stillwater and resolved to stage mass meetings, to allow thousands of gold mineworkers to come up with a new mandate and to pave a way forward.
All the leadership from both the two trade unions would address the mass meetings planned as follows:
Date: Friday 22 April 2022,
Venues: Driefontein and Kloof Mines in Carletonville,
Time: 10h00 am.
Members of the media are invited to attend and report.
