Press Statement, 14 June 2021

NUM mourns the passing of NEHAWU national spokesperson, comrade Khaya Xaba

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) conveys its deepest and sincere condolences to NEHAWU National Spokesperson Khaya Xaba’s immediate and extended family, comrades, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.

Xaba, a former national spokesperson of YCLSA was a highly regarded and accomplished professional and communicator who served the working class with distinction.

This is a tragic loss to the trade union movement communications and to the nation as a whole.

We have been robbed of a dedicated servant of the working class who selflessly served the trade union movement. Comrade Xaba's contribution to the working class movement and the left unity will be remembered forever. With the passing of comrade Xaba an era has come to an end.

The National Union of Mineworkers was founded in 1982.

Its birth was facilitated by comrades Cyril Ramaphosa who rose to be its first General Secretary, James Motlatsi who turned to be its first President, and Elijah Barayi who became its Vice President and later the President of Cosatu in 1985 when the federation was formed. porn
