STRIKE LOOMS AT TEBA LIMITED

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and TEBA Limited, a services company in the mining industry reached a stalemate in negotiations last Friday when the NUM was eventually awarded a certificate of non-resolution by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA). The NUM demands a 12,5% wage increment, down from the original demand of 13,5% whilst the company remains at 6%.  The NUM further demands a 3% service increment for each completed year of service plus a R5 500 once off payment for those with 10 years of service or more. The company has not made an offer on all these including on the traveling allowances. NUM members will be embarking on a build-up programme at all TEBA operations culminating on a full blown strike action.

“We have given TEBA Limited sufficient time to consider its position and clearly they have not made up their mind. We have now decided to mobilize the over a thousand workers for a complete shut down of its operations” says Tseliso Lesibe, the NUM ‘s negotiator at TEBA Limited.
