The 6th Annual JB Marks Career Exhibition 2017 Heads to Mthatha
The 2017 edition of the annual JB Marks Career Exhibition is heading to Mthatha in the Eastern Cape from 24 to 25 April at the Mthatha Airport Hangers. This year will see JB Marks Education Trust Fund, in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Basic Education reach an estimated target of 8000 learners from the district of Mthatha and the surrounding areas.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) welcomes the announcement made by Anglo American plc's  sale of its Eskom-tied domestic thermal coal operations in South Africa for R2.3 billion to a wholly owned subsidiary of Seriti Resources a company majority owned by historically disadvantaged South Africans.

The National Union of Mineworkers observed with grave concern the announcement by the State President in his 2017 State of the Nation Address that Eskom must fast track the signing of agreements with the Independent Power Producers. At the time of this announcement, theNUM was not aware of the real impact of the statement. Within a few weeks of the President’s speech, there was pressure on Eskom from all corners, including some Cabinet Ministers to sign agreements with IPPs.

The National Union of Mineworkers was founded in 1982.

Its birth was facilitated by comrades Cyril Ramaphosa who rose to be its first General Secretary, James Motlatsi who turned to be its first President, and Elijah Barayi who became its Vice President and later the President of Cosatu in 1985 when the federation was formed. porn
