NUM to start wage negotiations with Kumba Iron Ore
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is going to wage negotiations with Kumba Iron Ore after the three-year agreement is coming to an end on the 30th of June 2017. The NUM will table its demands of its members in Kumba Iron Ore operations in the Northern Cape ( Kolomela and Sishen mines) on the 25th of May 2017.

NUM Central Committee gathering to be held at Saint George Hotel in Pretoria
The Central Committee (CC) of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), the biggest decision-making body of the organisation outside congress will meet on the 8th to 9th  June 2017 at the Saint George Hotel in Pretoria. The CC rally will be held on the 10th of June 2017 in Rustenburg. Over 700 delegates from the branches of the NUM throughout South Africa will attend.

NUM deeply concerned by the death of more than 25 illegal miners in the Free State Province
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is deeply concerned by the continued deaths of illegal miners in the Free State Province. More than 30 bodies are so far retrieved in Eland Shaft in Welkom, and this is a matter of serious concern.

NUM remembers 104 mineworkers who perished at No2 Shaft at Vaal Reefs Gold Mining  Company Limited.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) today marks 22 years of one of the most terrible disasters in the mining industry. On 10th of  May 1995, 104 mineworkers were killed as a result of a locomotive falling  at the edge of 56 levels, landing on the cage and causing it to plunge 460 metres to the bottom of the shaft. It was history's worst ever elevator disaster.

The National Union of Mineworkers was founded in 1982.

Its birth was facilitated by comrades Cyril Ramaphosa who rose to be its first General Secretary, James Motlatsi who turned to be its first President, and Elijah Barayi who became its Vice President and later the President of Cosatu in 1985 when the federation was formed. porn
