The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is deeply hurt and disappointed by the ever-increasing fatalities in the mining industry in South Africa. Two mineworkers were fatally injured at Harmony Joel Mine this morning around 9 am as a result of FOG after a seismic event that happened at the mine.

NUM is worried that 79 mineworkers were trapped underground yesterday at Sibanye Stillwater Kloof Mine
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is concerned and worried that 79 mineworkers were yesterday trapped underground at Kloof Thuthukani Shaft in Westonaria. The incident happened at 4 pm in the afternoon after the material car fell into the shaft and led to workers being trapped underground. The workers were rescued at 9 pm last night.

Woller Freight is the worst and exploitative employer
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in Carletonville is annoyed and angered by the continuous exploitation of its members at the Woller Freight Company near Welverdiend. The management does not care about its workforce who make the profit for them. This is the company that prefers to employ foreign nationals over locals in what could be termed as cheap labour.

A decision to observe a day of mourning was taken by the NUM members during a mass meeting yesterday because they are worried about the ever deteriorating levels of safety at Sibanye Stillwater operations.
