NUM signed a three-year wage agreement with Harmony Gold Mine
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has today signed a three-year wage agreement with Harmony Gold Mine, ending a marathon of negotiations with the company. The agreement is effective from the first of 1st of July 2018 to June 2021.
The company agreed to pay the following increases over a 3-year period:1. Underground and surface workers. Year 1: R700. Year 2: R750. Year 3: R825
2. Artisans, Miners and Officials. Year 1: 6.3%. Year 2: 6.3%. Year 3: 6.3%
With regard to the other two remaining companies ( Sibanye Stillwater and Village Main Reef), the NUM has a certificate to go on strike at Sibanye Stillwater. The NUM will be meeting with Village Main Reef tomorrow for further wage negotiations at the Minerals Council of South Africa head office in Johannesburg.
We thank our members for giving us a mandate to sign this wage agreement. The life for better wages and better conditions is a life and death struggle. The NUM will continue waging a relentless struggle to improve better wages and working conditions of all mineworkers in South Africa.
