NUM concludes a 3-year wage agreement with the Coal Producers

 

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is pleased to announce it has signed a 3-year wage agreement with the coal producers last night. The wage agreement is effective from 1 June 2017 (Officials) and 1 July 2017 (category 4 to 8 employees and Miners and Artisans at all Companies with the exception of Koornfontein Mines which will implement on 1 July 2017 and Delmas Coal which will implement on 1 July 2017  for all employees.

 

The parties agreed to the following wage increases in 2017

 

1. Anglo American Coal SA

Category 4 to 8

 July 2017

 Jan 2018

Miners, Artisans and Officials: 7,5 % 

 

2. Exxaro Coal Mpumalanga

A and B Levels

July 2017

 Miners, Artisans and Officials: 7.5 %

 

3. Glencore Operations SA

4. Msobo Coal

Category 4 to 9: 7.5%

Miners, Artisans and Officials: 5.5 %

 

The parties agreed to the following wage increases  in 2018

 

 1. Anglo American Coal SA

Category 4 to 8: CPI + 1% or 7,5% whichever is greater

Miners, Artisans and Officials: CPI + 1% or 7,5% whichever is greater

 

2. Exxaro Coal Mpumalanga

A and B levels: CPI + 1% or 7,5% whichever is greater

Miners, Artisans and Officials: CPI + 1% or 7,5% whichever is greater

  

3. Glencore Operations in SA

Category 4 to 8: CPI + 1% or 7.5% whichever is greater 

Miners, Artisans and Officials: CPI + 1% or 7.5% whichever is greater

  

4. Msobo Coal

Category 4 to 8: CPI + 0,5% or 7% whichever is greater

Miners, Artisans and Officials: CPI + 0,5% or 6% whichever is greater

 

5. Koornfontein Mines

B and C Levels : CPI + 0.5% or 6% whichever is greater

 

6. Delmas Coal

Category 4 to 8: CPI + 1%

Miners, Artisans and Officials: 5%

 

The parties agreed to the following wage increases  in 2019

 

1. Anglo American Coal SA

Category 4 to 8:  8.5%

Miners, Artisans and Officials:  8%

 

2. Exxaro Coal Mpumalanga

A and B levels: CPI + 1% or 7.5% whichever is greater

Miners, Artisans and Officials: CPI + 1% or 7.5% whichever is greater

 

3. Glencore Operations SA

Category 4 to 8 : CPI + 1% or 7.5% whichever is greater

Miners, Artisans and Officials: CPI + 1% or 7.5% whichever is greater

  

4. Msobo Coal

Category 4 to 8 : CPI + 1% or 7.5% whichever is greater

Miners, Artisans and Officials: CPI + 0.5% or 7% whichever is greater

 

5. Koornfontein Mines

B and C Levels: CPI or 7% whichever is greater

 

6. Delmas Coal

Category 4 to 9 : 7.5 %

Miners, Artisans and Officials: 5% 

 The NUM wishes to express its sincere gratitude to its members in the coal sector for the manner in which they behaved during the negotiation period until they gave us the mandate to sign this wage agreement. Our members are excited and they gave us the mandate to sign the wage agreement.
