NUM members to picket outside Afrisam's Ulco offices in Kimberley

posted on
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) members will picket outside Afrisam Mine  Ulco offices in Kimberley  (6 January 2015) to handover a memorandum of grievances. NUM members are raising serious grievances of abuse and racism by some managers in their operations. In different incidences, black workers were called “BABOONS” and the perpetrators admitted these allegations. What is disdain is that, the management wants the workers to accept a mere “apology” instead of applying the company’s disciplinary code which might lead to the dismissal of these racists.

The company also continues to vehemently refuse to implement transformation in the workplace. Whites are still dominating the senior positions and the company’s  Employment Equity Report can attest to the fact that, despite the abundant availability of competent blacks in the industry, this company believes in white dominance.

NUM, therefore, vows to fight tooth and nail to ensure that these racist elements are removed from this company forever and compel the implementation of transformative legislation e.g. The Employment Equity Act, MPRDA etc.

The picket will start at 12:00 am

The media is welcome to attend and report.
